Privacy Policy

How Happy Plight handles your data.

Happy Plight is a one-person studio, and this website is deliberately simple. I collect as little about you as I can get away with, I don’t sell anything about you to anyone, and this page explains exactly what happens when you visit or sign up for updates.

This policy covers this website (www.happyplight.com). If a game or a store page (like Steam) ever collects data, that’s governed by that platform’s own privacy policy, not this one.

Who I am

This site is run by Happy Plight LLC (“Happy Plight,” “I,” or “me”), an Oregon limited liability company. If you have any questions about your data, email me at [email protected].

What I collect

Newsletter sign-ups. If you enter your email address to follow along with Space Game, I store that email address so I can send you updates. That’s it. No name required, and no tracking profile built around it.

Basic server logs. Like almost every website, the server that delivers these pages may automatically record standard technical information (your IP address, browser type, and the pages you request) as part of normal operation and to keep the site secure. These logs aren’t used to identify you personally.

Privacy-friendly analytics. I use Cloudflare Web Analytics to see basic, aggregate traffic, like which pages get visited and roughly how many people stop by. It doesn’t use cookies, it doesn’t store anything on your device, and it doesn’t fingerprint you or track you across other sites. No individual profile is built, and I can’t identify you from it.

No advertising or behavioral tracking. I don’t run ads, I don’t use third-party tracking pixels, and I don’t build an advertising profile of you.

Cookies

This site does not set tracking or advertising cookies, and the analytics above are cookieless. Any cookies present are strictly the functional ones needed for the site to work. Because nothing is stored on your device for tracking, there’s no cookie consent banner to click through.

How I use your information

I use the information above to:

  • Send you the newsletter updates you asked for, and nothing else.
  • Keep the site running, secure, and free of abuse.

I will never sell or rent your email address, and I won’t share it except where strictly necessary to operate the newsletter (see below) or where I’m legally required to.

Third-party services

To send email I use [your email/newsletter provider, e.g. Buttondown, MailerLite, or Mailchimp], which stores subscriber email addresses on my behalf. Their handling of that data is covered by their own privacy policy.

This site is hosted on Amazon S3, with Cloudflare providing the CDN and HTTPS in front of it and the privacy-friendly analytics described above. To deliver and secure the site, each may process basic technical request data such as your IP address, and each is covered by its own privacy policy.

I only work with providers that process data on my instructions, and I keep this list short on purpose.

How long I keep it

I keep your email address until you unsubscribe or ask me to delete it. Every newsletter email includes an unsubscribe link, and unsubscribing removes you from the list.

Your rights

You can, at any time:

  • Unsubscribe using the link in any newsletter email.
  • Ask what I hold about you, and I’ll tell you.
  • Ask me to delete your email address, and I will.

Just email [email protected] and I’ll take care of it. Depending on where you live (for example, under the GDPR in the EU/UK or the CCPA in California), you may have additional rights over your data, and I’ll honor those requests regardless of where you’re based.

Children

This site and its newsletter aren’t directed at children under 13, and I don’t knowingly collect data from them. If you believe a child has signed up, email me and I’ll remove it.

Changes to this policy

If I change how I handle your data, I’ll update this page and change the “last updated” date above. Material changes to how I use the newsletter list will be mentioned in the newsletter itself.
